I can always open a furniture store. I have always had a love for funiture, but never so much as when I started using it as photography “props.” So, after a long session last week with the large family in Grapevine, Kari and I decided to do a little shopping. We found a GREAT tricycle…can’t wait to use it and a couch. Now, Kari and I are alr d eady crammed into a little workroom in our studio, because of all the furniture and Josh tries to be oh so sweet about my chair obessions…but he is not so obliging with couch purchases…mainly because my studio is upstairs. But, nonetheless…they both agree it makes for a cool photo-prop Josh even said “you were right…” Ah…how fun! So, I had a new born baby session yesterday but while he was eating…I borrowed his little sister for an impromtu shoot, just to see it on “film…”

The cool thing about the gift of photography is being able to capture things as you actually see them…but that can be a source of frustration, too…when you see an image and then carry it around in your head for years longing to create it!

It seems most adults do not care to have their pictures taken anymore…afterall, it is the childen’s photography segement that allows me to be in business, not my senior citizen group, but man, are we missing out on capturing history that is fleeting faster than we care to stop and think about. So, years ago, I sat on my grandmother-in-law’s back porch, over looking the lake, where so many of us cousins, aunts and uncles, and community friends that we call family sit at every holiday gathering…and I saw this image. A beautiful woman with a zealous love for life and an even greater love for her soulmate, Grandpa. I did not have the pleasue of knowing them as a couple, as he passed away suddenly, just before Josh and I married…but I have lived their love life vicariously through the many fairy-tale stories she has shared through the past ten years on that backporch.

I have longed to capture this scene that I carry in my mind for quite a while now…but I would never ask! Fortunately, she was recently asked to be interviewed for an article for our community and I was asked to take pictures of her…and I immediately knew the shot I wanted to capture, her laughter! I can not put into words what this picture will mean to me and hopefully all that love her for many years to come…

…and because I am not known as the funny-gal in our marriage…he is the funny-guy…he came to help me get that laughter…my love…may I be blessed to know a love as deep as your grandma and grandpa did.
